A senior official from the Directorate of School Education told DT Next that the delay
was owing to a case regarding this pending at the Madras High Court. But now,
since the court case has been cleared, the government would announce
the counselling dates soon, he said.
“The government is also likely to amend the counselling procedure so that more
teachers benefit from it,” said the official.
He also claimed that the lack of headmasters was not affecting the students’ education
in high and higher secondary schools as the duties are being carried out by assistant headmasters.
But, the president of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association,
PK Ilamaran, said, “Without the presence of headmasters,
the free government schemes are not being implemented
in these schools and its affecting the children’s education.”
“Many teachers’ posts too are vacant in several high and higher
secondary schools. This has a major negative impact on students of
Classes 11 and 12,” he added.
“Since the case in the High Court has been cleared, the government
should conduct counselling sessions immediately and on war footing.
It will benefit both teachers and students,” Ilamaran said.
