குப்பாச்சிகலு (கன்னட திரைப்படம்) படம் முழுவதும் குருவியைப் பற்றியது. பரந்து விரிந்து கிடக்கும் நகரத்தின் கான்கிரீட் காடுகளின் சலசலப்புக்கு மத்தியில், இரண்டு குழந்தைகள் காணாமல் போன சிட்டுக்குருவியைத் தேடும் முயற்சியில் இறங்குகிறார்கள்.
இந்த குப்பாச்சிகலு (குருவிகள்) திரைப்படத்தில் குழந்தைகள் - இலா மற்றும் அனிருதா - அவர்கள் காணாமல் போன சிட்டுக்குருவியைத் தொடரும்போது அவர்களின் பயணத்தில் நம்மையும் அழைத்துச் செல்கின்றனர். சிட்டுக்குருவி காணாமல் போனதற்கு தாங்கள் காரணமாக இருக்கலாம் என்ற குற்ற உணர்ச்சியுடன் வீட்டை விட்டு கிளம்பினார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்களின் அப்பாவித்தனமும் ஆர்வமும்தான் அவர்கள் அசாதாரண இடங்களுக்கு வந்து அசாதாரண மனிதர்களைச் சந்திக்கும் போது புதியனவற்றை கற்றல் மற்றும் கண்டுபிடிப்பின் பாதையில் அவர்களை அழைத்துச் செல்கிறது. அவர்கள் சந்திக்கும் ஒவ்வொருவரும் சிட்டுக்குருவிகள் சுற்றி இருப்பதாக கூறுகிறார்கள்.
ஆனால் அவை உண்மையில் உள்ளனவா? கண்ணில் ஒரு சிட்டுக்குருவியைக் கூட கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாத குழந்தைகளின் கவலையும் குற்ற உணர்வும் ஒவ்வொரு சந்திப்புக்குப் பிறகும் வளரும். குழந்தைகள் இறுதியாக குருவியைக் கண்டுபிடித்தார்களா? ஒரு காலத்தில் எங்கும் காணப்பட்ட சிட்டுக்குருவி இப்போது கிட்டத்தட்ட அழிந்துவிட்ட இனமாகிவிட்டது.
இந்த திரைப்படம் நகர்ப்புற வாழ்க்கையின் யதார்த்தங்கள், ஆர்வமுள்ள இளம் மனங்கள் மற்றும் நமது சுற்றுப்புறங்களின் குறைந்து வரும் பல்லுயிர் பெருக்கம் ஆகியவற்றை நம் கண்முன்னால் கொண்டுவருகிறது.

Gubbachchigalu (Kannada movie) is all about the Sparrow. Amidst the hustle-bustle of the concrete jungle of a sprawling city, two children go on a quest to find ‘their’ missing sparrow. This film Gubbacchigalu (Sparrows) takes us with the children – Ila and Anirudha – on their journey as they pursue the elusive sparrow.
They set off from home with a guilt-ridden conscience that they may have been responsible for the sparrow’s disappearance. But it is their innocence and curiosity that take them on a trail of learning and discovery as they arrive at unusual places and meet unusual people. Everyone they meet says that sparrows are around but are they really there? Unable to find even a single sparrow in sight, the children’s anxiety and guilt only grows after each encounter.
Do the children finally find the sparrow? The once ubiquitous sparrow is now almost an extinct species. This movie brings into sharp relief the realities of urban life, curious young minds and a dwindling biodiversity of our surroundings.
